Blue Tongue

Provisions for the Handling of Animals from Restricted Territories for Blue Tongue infection
The Commission decision of 09 November 2001 (2001/783 / EC) implemented by the Ordinance of 6/12/2001 (n.600.6 / BT / 3405) which establishes the rules applicable to the movement of animals in the protection zones for bluetongue Malignant "Blue Tongue", allows, by way of derogation, the movement of cattle from the restricted areas, if the conditions established by the following conditions exist:
  • That they are protected from Culicoides attacks at least 100 days before loading. This means that the area must be kept under control by the ASL with regard to both insect and insect catches      serological checks on cattle. If all the checks are negative, the Ministry of Health, after hearing the opinion of the Blue Tongue Reference Center (CESME-IZS of Teramo) declares the area "seasonally      free from Blue Tongue "and authorizes the movement of cattle during the periods of stillness of the vector insects (with average temperatures always below 10 ° C) or, which are maintained before departure in a      quarantine stable for 28 days (as required by the O.M. 600.6 / BT / 3405 of 6-12-2001) and have undergone two serological checks for Blue Tongue with negative results.
  • Also the stables that receive these animals must carry out serolgic controls for BT (the ANAFI genetic center has been applying it since last September) and must place insect catches in the      stables and arrival. (the ASL of Cremona is taking care of placing the catches in the stables of the genetic center). They must also record the minimum and maximum temperatures in the perimeters of the structures they use      they house animals.
Quarantine stations must be activated under the control of the ASL and authorized by the Ministry of Health. The transport must be carried out with suitable means equipped with insect protection nets and at times not at risk (between 8.00 and 15.00).
