P.G.A.
The Herd Genetic Profile (PGA) is another service offered by Anafi which allows a constant monitoring of the genetic and environmental situation of the individual herd, of the province, of the region, and of the whole country.
The PGA illustrates the genetic, environmental and phenotypic trend of the last 15 years for milk, fat and protein, plus the trend (every six months) of the indices of the cows and the bulls used, and the distribution of the various classes of bulls used in the herd, the province, the region and in Italy. The phenotypic information on the averages calculated by Aia (official records of the Milk Testing Bulletin), and the type evaluations of first lactation cows of the last 15 months, are also included.
To be able to evaluate the frequency of technical interventions, or the possibility of taking action whenever the need arises, various printouts and graphs are produced, which allow the behaviour of each herd to be monitored over the course of time.
The PGA probably represents the most useful of all the tools offered by Anafi, which forwards all data, and the program to handle this data, directly to the Provincial Associations, which in turn have the task of conveying this precious information to their members. The procedure is updated every six months, and coincides with the calculation of the bulls breeding values in February and August.
The program is currently under review with an eye to making it easier to use, and implementing the trend of other traits, namely fertility.
